HCW Respiratory Protection Less Costly than Widely Believed

Despite recent claims, the cost of healthcare worker respiratory protection and fit-testing programs in the nation's hospitals is not prohibitive, according to a report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC report found that respiratory protection devices and programs aimed at preventing the nosocomial spread of tuberculosis cost a median of $123,000 in four high-risk hospitals that had experienced outbreaks and under $11,000 in a hospital considered to be low-risk for tuberculosis incidents.
