Most TB-Associated Lymphadenitis in Sydney Occurs in Immigrants

In eastern Sydney, Australia, lymphadenitis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis in HIV negative persons is generally restricted to immigrants.

Lymphadenitis is the most common manifestation of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in the developed world.

In this report, P. Wark and colleagues from Sydney's Prince of Wales Hospital reviewed all cases of mycobacterial lymphadenitis notified in the eastern suburbs of Sydney from 1989 to 1996. The researchers sought to review all cases of mycobacterial adenitis in eastern Sydney.
