India Reports MDR-TB Figures

Multidrug resistant tuberculosis is on the rise in India, according to the first reported genetic evaluation of the disease from that country.

A total of 116 isolates from patients attending the out-patient department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and the New Delhi Tuberculosis Centre, New Delhi, India were collected by researcher N. Siddiqi and colleagues ("Molecular Genetic Analysis of Multi-Drug Resistance in Indian Isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis," Mem Ist Oswaldo Cruz, Sept-Oct, 1998;93(5):589-594).
