Follow-Up Tests for TB Underway at University

Health officials at the University of Arkansas have been doing follow-up tests on a group of students and staff members who may have been exposed to a student with tuberculosis (TB).

The tests should show whether the sick student spread the disease to others, said Hazel Mabry, a nurse with the Arkansas State Health Department.

The results of tests done in October 1998 led officials to believe the student was not highly contagious, Mabry said. But an infected person may not test positive for several weeks, making a second test necessary, officials said.
