According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 4th International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection, held November 8-12, 1998, in Glasgow, United Kingdom, "The purpose of this study is to describe the prevalence and clinical course of MAC infection cases occurred in a cohort of 105 HIV vertically infected children followed at our Center in the period 1986-1998. Infection has been diagnosed by microscopy and cultural examination of stools, urine, expectoration and gastric aspirate; non radioactive DNA probes were used for MA typing. 4/105 children followed at our Center were diagnosed as infected by MAC (3 males, 1 female) at a median age of 115 months (r. 72-158).
