Anorexia Nervosa Somehow Suppresses Active TB

It's an extreme and life-threatening remedy to be sure, but a case study from Germany suggests that starving yourself can prevent tuberculosis.

Researchers present the case of a woman with a history of severe anorexia nervosa who developed active TB in conjunction with her first weight gain after 12 years of malnutrition.

"[These findings] seem to endorse former observations that anorexia nervosa patients appear to be 'resistant' to some extent against infectious disease, a 'protection' which may be lost with convalescence and weight gain," M.
