23 Cases of Strain W TB Have Been Reported Outside NY

Twenty-three cases of strain W tuberculosis have been reported outside of New York State since the early 1990's, according to a report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

And not all the cases had contact with stain W patients inside New York, where the highly drug resistant TB strain was first reported.

"Multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis is spreading to areas that have rarely experienced MDR tuberculosis because of the mobility of the U.S. population," Tracy B.
