MDR-TB Poorly Managed in France

A nationwide case-control study of multidrug resistant tuberculosis in France found that management and outcome of the disease is poor.

The factors related to the outcome of 51 cases of multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) reported in 1994 to the French National Reference Center were retrospectively analyzed in this study ("Outcome of Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis in France," American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, August 1999;160(2):587-593).

The patients (median age, 45 years) were mainly male (75 percent), foreign-born (63 percent), and had pulmonary involvement (95 percent). Sixteen percent were HIV...
