CDC Examines TB Control in Children's Hospitals

The world is still waiting for the optimal tuberculosis control program for pediatric settings, a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report suggests.

"No data are available on the costs of implementing infection control measures for the control of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) in pediatric settings," S. Kellerman and colleagues wrote ("Cost Associated with Tuberculosis Control Programs at Hospitals Caring for Children," Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, July 1999;18(7):604-608).

"In this study we determined the cost of MTB control measures at three hospitals caring for children."
