M. bovis TB Affects Australian Immigrants/Cattle Workers

Tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium bovis infections appears to be a significant source of the disease among immigrants to Australia and cattle workers in that country.

Researcher D.V. Cousins and colleagues from South Perth's Australian Reference Laboratory for Bovine TB sought to determine the contribution of M. bovis to active tuberculosis in the Australian population during 1970-1994, and to collate and analyze demographic data from bacteriologically-proven cases.

Summary data for tuberculosis cases notified by Australian public health agencies during 1970-1985 and 1991-1994 were obtained from the database of notifiable diseases...
