Satellites Can Impact TB Treatment in Endemic Countries

Satellite technology is the latest weapon in the war against tuberculosis in underdeveloped regions.

Researchers report the geographic information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS) were successfully used in Hlabisa, South Africa, to document the progress of a World Health Organization (WHO) observed tuberculosis treatment strategy ("GIS/GPS To Document Increased Access to Community-Based Treatment for Tuberculosis in Africa," The Lancet, July 31, 1999;354:394-395).
