 M. tb Luciferase Reporter Tracks Vaccine Efficacy

The luciferase reporter strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis may one day advance the assessment of tuberculosis vaccine efficacy.

"Measurement of luminescence is sensitive, stable, and simple to carry out, and a linear relationship generally exists between mycobacterial viability and bioluminescence in M. smegmatis, bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG), and M. tuberculosis," Valerie A. Snewin and colleagues wrote ("Assessment of Immunity to Mycobacterial Infection with Luciferase Reporter Constructs," Infection and Immunity, September 1999;67(9):4586-4593).
