Report Suggests Interspecies TB Infection

The finding of a common Mycobacterium bovis genotype between cattle and wild boars suggests interspecies transmission of this mycobacterium.

In this study, A. Serraino and colleagues conducted an epidemiological survey to monitor bovine tuberculosis transmission in western Liguria, a region in northern Italy ("Monitoring of Transmission of Tuberculosis Between Wild Boars and Cattle: Genotypical Analysis of Strains by Molecular Epidemiology Techniques," Journal of Clinical Microbiology, September 1999;37(9):2766-2771).
