T-Helper Cytokine Production Examined in Tuberculosis

A study from Italy examined in vitro production of type 1 and type 2 cytokines by peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with different forms of tuberculosis.

The study was presented at the First International Congress on Cytokines/Chemokines in Infectious Diseases, held September 8-10, 1999, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Whether the prevalence of one of the two T-helper compartments (Th1 - Th2) may affect the amount and the type of lung involvement in tuberculosis patients is still controversial.
