Elevated Dendritic Cells Enhance Viral Immunity

Elevated numbers of dendritic cells can produce enhanced protection against herpes simples virus type 1 (HSV-1), according to a report from England.

Previous research studies have demonstrated that Flt-3 ligand (Flt-3L) induces large numbers of lymphoid and myeloid dendritic cells (DC) in vivo, indicated Jo R. Smith and colleagues.

"We confirm that increasing doses of Flt-3L, administered subcutaneously to mice for 9 consecutive days, caused a corresponding increase in total spleen cell number," Smith et al. wrote in a study titled "Effect of Flt-3 ligand on HSV-1 pathogenesis," presented at the Joint Congress of the British Society for Immunology...
