Oral Administration of Mycobacterium bovis BCG Effective

The oral or intragastric administration of Mycobacterium bovis bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) induced similar levels of protective immunity as that induced by immunization via the subcutaneous route, suggested researchers in France.

"After oral or intragastric administration of BCG to mice, comparable numbers of IFN gamma and TNF gamma producing cells were detected in both local (Peyer's patches) and central (spleen) lymphoid organs," stated M.
