N.A. Rezende and colleagues from Federal University of Minais Gerais School of Medicine and other institutions retrospectively reviewed S. aureus strains from blood cultures taken in the emergency care center of Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, from January 1, 1996, to May 31, 1998. They found 118 (39.7%) of 297 patients with S. aureus were methicillin-resistant (MR).
