Caffeine Limits Apnea in Neonates

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is associated with apnea in infants, scientists say. However, caffeine can limit the number of apnea episodes that infants with this virus experience, according to a recent study.

J.D. Tobias of the University of Missouri retrospectively reviewed data on infants who were given caffeine for apnea associated with RSV ("Caffeine in the treatment of apnea associated with respiratory syncytial virus infection in neonates and infants," Southern Medical Journal, 2000;93(3):294-296).
