Viral Nonstructural Protein Required for Replication

Scientists in Canada have conducted research that shows the p200 polyprotein is important for viral replication in the rubella virus and that mutation on this protein can cause the virus to be non-infectious.

Y.Y. Lang led the research efforts of several investigators at the University of British Columbia who reported their findings in the Journal of Virology ("Mutational analysis of the rubella virus nonstructural polyprotein and its cleavage products in virus replication and RNA synthesis," J Virol, 2000;74(11):5133-5141).
