Screening Benefits Vary with Different Risk Factors

Tuberculosis screening for prevention and treatment is not an exact science, an investigator at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center reports in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

"The benefits of screening for latent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection are unknown for most people, because screening has not been studied in clinical trials and preventive therapy has not been tested in all risk groups for whom it is recommended," D.N. Rose noted in the report.

For purposes of this study, Rose reviewed literature in the Medline database to determine the risks associated with tuberculosis.
