Hepatitis-Induced Liver Disease is Major Cause of Death in Turkmenistan

Viral hepatitis is responsible for a large number of chronic liver disease (CLD) deaths in Turkmenistan, according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention researchers.

To identify the frequency and causes of CLD among Turkmenistan children and adults, M. Favorov and colleagues conducted a study based on national CLD data and information on patients who were hospitalized for gastrointestinal disease (GID) in Ashgabad, Turkmenistan. The researchers also tested 300 CLD patients for hepatitis markers.
