Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction Isolates and Identifies Mycobacteria Species

There are many commercial assay systems that can quickly isolate mycobacteria. However, according to researchers at Chonnam University Medical School, identifying mycobacteria becomes a more difficult challenge with some of these systems.

Thus, they have developed a rapid, multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique that can overcome identification difficulties.

A description of their technique was presented D.W. Ryang et al. at the American Association of Community Colleges 52^nd Annual Meeting and Clinical Laboratory Exposition. The meeting and expo was held in San Francisco, California, this summer.
