Multidrug-Resistant TB Can Cause Reinfection in HIV Patients

Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis was responsible for reinfection of HIV patients in Spain.

Researchers conducted a study to analyze "the frequency of reinfection in an outbreak of tuberculosis caused by a strain of Mycobacterium bovis resistant to 12 antituberculosis drugs (MDR-B), that involved 30 HIV infected patients in the University Hospital of Malaga," reported A. Rivero and colleagues from the University Hospital Reina Sofia, the University Hospital Virgen de la Victoria, and the University of Zaragoza.
