Priority Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccination Urged for High-Risk Groups

U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher, MD, PhD, and representatives of leading medical groups are urging priority vaccination of individuals in the U.S. who are at high risk for serious complications from influenza and pneumococcal infection.

Although a delay in delivery of the 2000 influenza vaccine supply is anticipated, vaccine production and distribution will continue for longer than usual and vaccine will be available through December 2000 and later. "Healthy" individuals should plan to get their influenza shot in December.
