Sexual Partner Count Presents Greatest Risk for HPV-Related Cancer in Women

Human papillomaviruses have been shown to be a significant factor in the development of cervical cancers in women. Researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden say the strongest risk factor associated with being infected with oncogenic human papillomaviruses (HPV) is the number of sexual partners a woman has had.

Oncogenic human papillomaviruses, as opposed to benign human papillomaviruses, are causative agents for cancer.
