Should DDT Be Banned in the Fight Against Mosquitoes?

Malaria kills more than one million people every year, yet the United Nations Environment Program met in Johannesburg, South Africa, to discuss phasing out DDT, which is still used by many countries to control the mosquitoes that spread malaria.

A debate in the November 30, 2000, issue of the British Medical Journal considered the merits of such a phase-out.
