Researchers Say Botulinum Toxin Is Major Biological Weapons Threat

The Working Group on Civilian Biodefense, an expert panel convened by the Center for Civilian Biodefense Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, says that botulinum toxin poses a major biological weapons threat to the public.

Botulinum toxin is the cause of the disease called botulism. The Hopkins Working Group's latest report recommends medical and public health guidelines and policies to minimize the consequences from an attack and was published in the February 28, 2001, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
