H.Y. Kim and colleagues in South Korea correlated scans of the lining of the lung and extrapleural space with tissue samples obtained from decortication surgery. They compared chest scans from 13 men with a mean age of 42 who had chronic tuberculous empyema with findings from tissue samples ("Parietal pleura and extrapleural space in chronic tuberculous empyema: CT-pathologic correlation," Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 2001;25(1):9-15).
