Nursing Home Residents More Susceptible Than Community Residents

by N.R. Saltmarsh, staff medical writer - Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is significantly more likely to affect nursing home residents than community residents of the same age, an epidemiological study has found.

Elderly nursing home patients represent a potential target group for vaccination - after a group B vaccine is developed, noted K.J. Henning and colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Reporting in the April 2001 issue of the Journal of Infectious Diseases, Henning et al. noted:
