G. Franciosa and colleagues working in Italy compared the new infrequent-restriction-site PCR (IRS-PCR) with PCR-ribotyping and arbitrarily primed PCR (AP-PCR) in terms of their ability to characterize 32 L. monocytogenes strains (16 from an outbreak of invasive listeriosis and 16 from two outbreaks of noninvasive listeriosis, all three in Italy).
IRS-PCR showed better discrimination than the other two methods...
