Respiratory Viruses More Likely Among Day Care Children With CMV

by N.R. Saltmarsh, staff medical writer - Young children colonized with cytomegalovirus (CMV) are more susceptible to respiratory viruses than those who attend daycare centers where CMV circulates, say researchers working in France.

During a four-month period in the winter of 1992/1993, J.J. Chomel and associates tested children six to 12 months old attending day-care centers in Lyon. They sought to find a connection between CMV and an increasing prevalence and severity of acute respiratory infections in day-care centers.
