Coinfection With B. Burgdorferi, C. Trachomatis Seen In Oligoarthritis

by N.R. Saltmarsh, staff medical writer - Some patients with unexplained arthritis have coinfection with Borrelia burgdorferi and Chlamydia trachomatis in their synovial fluid, but it is unclear whether one, both, or neither organism is responsible.

"C. trachomatis and B. burgdorferi infections are frequently the cause of unexplained oligoarthritis, as shown by identification of bacteria-specific DNA in joint material from patients with reactive arthritis, Lyme arthritis, and undifferentiated oligoarthritis," explained N.
