Antibody Diagnosis Not Reliable

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Antibody tests to distinguish tuberculous pleuritis from other forms of pleurisy are not clinically useful because of their low degree of accuracy, researchers in Thailand say.

N. Chierakul and colleagues at Mahidol University in Bangkok conducted a study to "evaluate the diagnostic value of antibody detection in serum and in pleural effusion as a marker of tuberculous pleuritis (TBP)." Their results were published in the October 2001 issue of the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.
