Doxycycline Gets Anthrax Labeling

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is in the process of approving new labeling for doxycycline and other antibiotics to treat anthrax, in response to increasing national interest in antibiotic treatment options for anthrax, said Bioglan Pharma, Inc. The company's Adoxa (doxycycline) tablets are already available for this use.

Adoxa (doxycycline), traditionally marketed by Bioglan as an adjunctive treatment of severe acne, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic member of the tetracycline class, and is approved by the FDA for the treatment of anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) in all its forms, including cutaneous and inhalation anthrax (postexposure) in adults and children...
