Moxifloxacin May Make Effective Isoniazid Supplement

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - The fluoroquinolone antibiotic moxifloxacin may be useful for neutralizing tuberculosis infections, researchers say.

Nacer Lounis and colleagues at the Faculte de Medecine Pitie-Salpetriere in Paris, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, and the nonprofit Global Alliance for TB Drug Development in New York City evaluated the efficacy of moxifloxacin in mice.

The broad-spectrum antibiotic appeared to enhance the effectiveness of isoniazid, they reported.
