Mantoux Test Ineffective For Mycobacterial Lymphadenitis Patients

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Tuberculin skin testing can lead to false diagnoses of tuberculosis when used on patients with mycobacteria-induced lymph node inflammation, researchers in Israel report.

Dr. Yishai Haimi-Cohen and colleagues at Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel in Petah Tiqva and Tel Aviv University's Sackler Faculty of Medicine examined the accuracy of Mantoux testing in such patients. Their results were published in the November 2001 edition of the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
