Positive Phase II Results Of Adjunctive Actimmune Presented

InterMune, Inc., announced positive results from its Phase II clinical trial investigating Actimmune (interferon (gamma)-1b) as adjunctive therapy to conventional antifungal treatment of cryptococcal meningitis, a life-threatening fungal infection of the central nervous system.

The current standard of care is treatment with amphotericin B (AmB) followed by fluconazole. The addition of Actimmune to the standard regimen showed a strong trend toward more rapid clearance of Cryptococcus fungus from cerebral spinal fluid (CSF), when compared with conventional antifungal therapy alone.
