"Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), a major form of tea catechins, has a variety of biological activities," explained Kazuto Matsunaga and colleagues at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. "Tobacco smoking, nicotine in particular, is one of the risk factors for respiratory infections."
EGCg treatment reversed the effects of nicotine on pulmonary macrophages in vitro, Matsunaga and coauthors found.
