Missouri Begins Clinical Trials In Children

A clinical study to prevent rotavirus in children began Jan. 9 in Missouri.

Officials at Jefferson City Medical Group said thousands of Missouri children contract the virus each year, which can cause severe diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and dehydration.

In the next 6 months, the Jefferson City clinic hopes to inoculate 300 mid-Missouri infants with the new vaccine. The clinic is the only one in Missouri to participate in the study.

Clinic officials said the vaccine began being distributed nationwide last year. About 30,000 children will be in the study in the United States and another 30,000 worldwide.
