Bush's 'abstinence only' program puts at-risk youth at greater risk, says GLMA

At its recent board of directors meeting, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA) unanimously voiced deep disappointment and concern about the increased funding of "abstinence only" programs by President Bush.

To prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and out-of-wedlock pregnancies, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced that the president's budget "reflects a $33 million increase over 2002 to fund abstinence-only education, fulfilling the President's pledge to fund abstinence only programs at $135 million."
