Minocycline-EDTA prevents catheter colonization

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Researchers in the United States recommend a combination of minocycline and EDTA (M-EDTA) for preventing catheter-related nosocomial outbreaks.

Dr. Issam Raad and colleagues at the University of Texas and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and Wake Forest University's Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina,evaluated a number of potential solutions to this problem.

Treatment of catheters with M-EDTA was the only way to completely eradicate catheter colonization by infectious pathogens, Raad and coauthors said.
