Scientists from the biodefense research center have succeeded in fatally injecting monkeys with smallpox at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Experts said it's the first time animals have developed smallpox that resembles the disease found in humans.
In the past, scientists have only been able to inject animals with similar diseases, such as monkeypox and mousepox.
