Another infected bird found in Louisiana

Results from blood tests taken from a bird trapped near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Metro Airport were positive for the Eastern Equine encephalitis virus.

The bird was tested March 19, 2002, said Matt Yates, director of the East Baton Rouge Parish Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control program. The blood sample was sent to Florida for testing and tested positive.

The bird was the second case of Eastern Equine encephalitis found in the area. Earlier, a horse in West Baton Rouge Parish tested positive for the same strain of the virus.
