Nonprofit offers alternative to pesticides used to treat head lice

The nonprofit National Pediculosis Association (NPA) is reaching out to families with "Jesse's Project" and a nonchemical choice for head lice.

Jesse was a child whose mother treated him for head lice while he was recovering from leukemia. It was when his relapse was attributed to an unknown chemical exposure that Jesse's mother, Teresia Cross, first considered that the treatments she used may have been more than medicated shampoos, realizing that they were pesticides. She warns other mothers of sick or children in recovery. "I want to do whatever I can to help educate parents so that they can make the safest choices possible."
