Orlando to be among three cities to test vaccine

U.S. government scientists plan to test a new smallpox vaccine in Orlando, Florida and two other cities.

The tests will determine what dosage protects people against the virus as a biological weapon.

Orlando's study will include 120 people, ages 18 through 29, who have never been vaccinated for smallpox. Other test sites are the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and a private medical center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The central Florida research, which began in late August 2002, will be done by Orlando Clinical Research Center.
