Positive results from preclinical vaccine trials presented

Acambis plc (ACAM; LSE; and ACM) presented preclinical data on its West Nile vaccine, ChimeriVax-West Nile, at the 42nd Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC).

Dr. Juan Arroyo, Acambis' project leader for ChimeriVax-West Nile, gave a presentation on the development of the ChimeriVax-West Nile vaccine, providing data showing that, in preclinical mammalian models, the vaccine was safe and induced high levels of neutralizing antibodies. The preclinical trials also demonstrated the ability of ChimeriVax-West Nile to protect against challenge with wild-type West Nile virus.
