Granulocyte transfusion effective against post-transplant meningoencephalitis

by Michael Greer, senior medical writer - Researchers in Japan have identified a novel and effective strategy for treating bacterial meningoencephalitis after bone marrow transplantation.

Y. Tsukada and colleagues at Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo investigated the utility of granulocyte transfusion (GTX) for stem cell recipients who develop this rare morbidity.

GTX can resolve post-transplant enterococcal meningoencephalitis, the researchers found.
