"Ofloxacin, a chiral fluoroquinolone, possesses two optical isomers. The antibacterial activity of S-(-)-ofloxacin is reported to be 8-128 times higher than that of R-(+)-ofloxacin," researchers in Germany explained.
B. Awadallah and colleagues at the University of Tuebingen developed a capillary zone electrophoresis-based assay "to quantify the enantiomers of ofloxacin in highly diluted samples (20-700 ng/mL for each enantiomer)."
