"Molluscan shellfish are known to be carriers of viral and bacterial pathogens," microbiologists there noted. "The consumption of raw oysters has been repeatedly linked to outbreaks of viral gastroenteritis and hepatitis A. Switzerland imports over 300 tons of oysters per year, 95% of which originate in France."
