Yu-Jin Jung and colleagues working at the Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake investigated "whether failure of mice to resolve Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection is a consequence of downregulation of T helper 1 (Th1) immunity" by IL-10.
Despite a significant increase in pulmonary IL-10 production after Mtb infection, the cytokine had little if any impact on Th1 immune activity or disease course, Jung and coauthors reported.
